Remarkable when you count what small proportion of 8 billion brains or of earth's land capital arond which these loving human communities have generated greatest leaps in learning. For example we now have access to machines with billion times more maths brainspower than separate human minds thanks to Taiwan 1987-2026 as well as a team of silicon valley taiwanesen americans linked by Jensen Hiang family.

 Actually before Japan's financial crash in the 1980s this country had been main customer of Moores laws million fold increase in silicon capacity celebrated by Von Neumann-Turing-Keynes alumni and in 25 years of my father Norman Macrae's  surveys in The Economist chip on west coast designing microelecttonics goods, engineering super cities (Tokyo bencmark to 20+ Asian cities each of 20+ million ) and advanced manufacturing supply chains. In post war transformation Japan adopted Deming recursive engineering and Borlaug agricultural science making it both a supercity engineering and  deep agriculture space for generating  naturally conscious mindsets and cultures . Taiwan's tech investment leader KT Li (sovereign investor in Maurice Chang's Ai foundry) in the 1980s was Cambridge Cavendish educated in the 1930s at a time when Turing, Von Neumann, Keynes were resident at Kings a few minutes walk from Cavendish

So it may be partly historical good fortune that best in world AI comes from generations of islanders. However if we  also look at us west coast, most of  most brilliant intelligence engineers are hemmed in by mountains or deserts to  a land parsimonious coastal rim- we could argue they too have for half a century maxinised intelligence capital advances per square mile of land capital.
